Joseph McCarthy claimed that he had a list of 205 State Department Employees who were known communist.
McCarthy's statements lead to paranoia and the firing of countless people. McCarthy accused Eisenhower on being weak on communism . Democrats attacked Eisenhower for not taking public stand against McCarthy. Eisenhower worked behind the scenes to weaken McCarthy. When McCarthy went after the military the U.S leaked out information that discredited McCarthy. This led to his down fall. |
